Dear Neighbor,
We hope you are well and enjoying the start of summer!
This letter is from neighbors in the Bywood Neighborhood of Upper Darby, with the support of Bywood Community Association (BCA). BCA is a nonprofit that seeks to improve the quality of life in the Bywood Neighborhood. We, as neighbors, want to celebrate, share a vision, and invite you to participate in Bywood’s future.
We love how the Bywood Neighborhood has parties for Eagles games, quinceañeras, Eid Mubarak, and more. Beautiful multiculturalism can also lead to difficulty and misunderstanding. So, we want to support community norms so every resident, culture, and visitor lives toward a welcoming, clean, and comfortable Bywood.
To make this vision a reality, neighbors, and BCA, host clean ups every second Saturday from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, until October 2026. We need your support! The flyer shows the schedule and location for clean-ups, and Action Meetings, where we connect, collaborate, and make change. Please join in and make Bywood better!
| Please: – Get to know your neighbors – Put trash in tied bags, and those bags in trash cans near the curb – Pick up your dog poop – Consider the effect of your actions – Don’t leave trash/ furniture outside – Remove overgrown/ wilted vegetation – Cut and bag grass and vines – Haul construction trash to a dump | Please Don’t: – Litter, or feed animals – Leave laundry on the line for more than three hours – Leave leaves on your sidewalk, nor in the street – Speed, nor run past STOP signs without stopping – Take liberties that may negatively affect others – Leave wood, trash, and waste in front of your house – Put construction waste out with regular trash – Trash more than one large item in a pick-up – Make assumptions about your neighbors |
What would Bywood be if everyone followed these practices?
All can see Upper Darby Township trash policies at this website and translate each page: https://www.upperdarby.org/320/Trash-Recycling-Pickup-Guide. Some of the things listed above are mandated by Upper Darby Township; others are not. As your neighbors, we don’t want to be punitive, but desire a clean, kept, joyful environment. All people can report tall grass, alley potholes, unkept trash, and more violations to Upper Darby Township’s One Center by calling (610) 734-7625 (English), emailing, one@upperdarby.org (multilingual).
There doesn’t have to be litter. Bywood can be clean. There doesn’t have to be speeding. Bywood can be safe. There doesn’t have to be a misunderstanding. Bywood can be unified. Bywood is a walkable, serene and secure neighborhood. We can keep it multicultural and add a suburban feel. What will you do to support this vision?
Thank you for reading this and please join-in; make the possibility a reality.
In Unity and Hope,
Bywood neighbors, with support from Bywood Community Association
